HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
|
|
WHEREAS, Residents of Lamar County lost a committed public |
|
servant with the death of Commissioner Micheal Roger Blackburn of |
|
Sylvan on February 12, 2007, at the age of 62; and |
|
WHEREAS, Born on April 2, 1944, in Paris, Mike Blackburn |
|
served his country during the Vietnam War as a member of the U.S. |
|
Army; after returning home, he went to work in the manufacturing |
|
division of the UARCO plant, where he remained a dedicated employee |
|
for nearly 30 years until the plant's closing; in addition, he was a |
|
longtime rancher and the owner of Blossom Hardware and Blossom Feed |
|
Store; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Blackburn was first elected commissioner of |
|
Precinct No. 1 in 1994 and began serving the following year; he |
|
quickly gained the respect of colleagues and constituents alike for |
|
his strong convictions and decisive actions and for his genuine |
|
desire to help people; during his tenure, he served as the |
|
court-appointed coordinator of the Lamar County Courthouse |
|
renovation, a project that he had long championed, and in 2006, the |
|
courthouse was recognized with a historic restoration award by |
|
Preservation Texas; returned to office by the voters time and again |
|
for his service in behalf of area residents, Commissioner Blackburn |
|
was in his 13th year of office at the time of his passing; and |
|
WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Blackburn enjoyed the love |
|
and support of his wife, Becky, with whom he celebrated 40 years of |
|
marriage on January 5, 2007; moreover, he was the devoted father of |
|
two sons, Micheal and Craig, and he took great pleasure in the |
|
company of his three grandsons, Brian, Jake, and Hank; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mike Blackburn served his fellow citizens with |
|
vision and dedication, and although he will be deeply missed, he |
|
will long be remembered for his myriad contributions to Lamar |
|
County; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the 80th Legislature of the State of Texas |
|
hereby honor the memory of Micheal Roger Blackburn and extend |
|
sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife, Becky |
|
Blackburn; to his sons, Micheal Lee Blackburn and Craig Lewis |
|
Blackburn and his wife, Tabitha; to his grandchildren, Brian Lee |
|
Blackburn, Micheal Jake Blackburn, and Hank Isom Blackburn; to his |
|
brothers, Harold Lee Blackburn and his wife, Emmy, and Donald |
|
Claude Blackburn and his wife, Jo; and to his other relatives and |
|
many friends; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives and Senate adjourn this day, they do so in memory of |
|
Micheal Roger Blackburn. |
