CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
|
|
WHEREAS, LeTourneau University in Longview is celebrating |
|
its 60th anniversary, and this proud occasion offers a fitting |
|
opportunity to recognize this outstanding school; and |
|
WHEREAS, Founded by namesake R. G. LeTourneau in 1946, |
|
LeTourneau University is a fully accredited interdenominational |
|
Christian university offering 60 academic programs for graduate and |
|
undergraduate students; and |
|
WHEREAS, With a total annual enrollment of just under 4,000, |
|
LeTourneau University boasts an impressive 15:1 student-faculty |
|
ratio, allowing for a small classroom environment and the |
|
development of strong personal relationships between professors |
|
and pupils; and |
|
WHEREAS, Students can pursue a range of more than 60 academic |
|
programs, including accounting, computer science, and kinesiology, |
|
but the school is perhaps best known for its cornerstone programs in |
|
aeronautical science, teacher education, engineering, and |
|
business; programs in biblical studies and Christian ministry are |
|
also an important part of the school's curriculum; and |
|
WHEREAS, Accredited by the Southern Association of Schools |
|
and Colleges, LeTourneau University is a member of the Council for |
|
Christian Colleges and Universities and the Evangelical Council for |
|
Financial Accountability, and its students take part in volunteer |
|
activities with the support of the Center for the Development of |
|
Christian Leadership; and |
|
WHEREAS, By encouraging students to embrace their Christian |
|
faith within a dynamic academic and social environment, the |
|
university's leaders are enabling young people to achieve their |
|
full potential, and the success of LeTourneau students is a tribute |
|
to the school's founding principles; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the 80th Legislature of the State of Texas |
|
hereby recognize LeTourneau University on the occasion of its 60th |
|
anniversary and extend best wishes to the many individuals |
|
affiliated with this fine institution of higher learning; and, be |
|
it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for LeTourneau University as an expression of high regard |
|
by the Texas House of Representatives and Senate. |
