CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
         WHEREAS, The city of Paris lost an esteemed citizen with the
  passing of Robert Bruce Staples, Jr., on March 4, 2007, at the age
  of 75; and
         WHEREAS, Born in Dallas on May 17, 1931, Mr. Staples was the
  son of Robert, Sr., and Esther Shannon Staples; he attended and
  graduated from Paris High School, Paris Junior College, and East
  Texas State University; and
         WHEREAS, On April 7, 1951, he was united in matrimony with the
  former Norma Lawrence, and together they shared many happy times
  during their 56-year union; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Staples ably served his country during the
  Korean War as a member of the U.S. Air Force; after completing his
  military service, he enjoyed a 40-year career as a chartered life
  underwriter with Southwestern Life Insurance and New England
  (Metropolitan Life) Insurance companies; and
         WHEREAS, A dedicated civic leader as well, this respected
  gentleman was an active member of the Rotary Club of Greater Paris,
  served on the Planning and Zoning Committee, and provided
  leadership as a member of the Paris Junior College Memorial
  Foundation Board; he practiced his faith as a congregant at East
  Paris Baptist Church and during his lifetime was honored with the
  Junior Chamber of Commerce Distinguished Service Award; and
         WHEREAS, Robert Staples lived a caring and purposeful life,
  and although he is deeply missed, he leaves behind a legacy to
  treasure for those who held him dear; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the 80th Legislature of the State of Texas
  hereby pay tribute to the life of Robert Bruce Staples, Jr., and
  extend deepest sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife,
  Norma Staples; to his daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Joe
  Weber; to his sons and daughters-in-law, Bruce and Patti Staples
  and Larry and Leah Staples; to his grandchildren, Clint Weber and
  his wife, Heather, Julie Weber, Anna Staples, Robert Staples, Eric
  Evenson, and Shala O'Neal; to his great-grandchildren, Elizabeth
  Weber, Cortney and Crystal O'Neal, and Trent, Kaleb, and Kameron
  Evenson; to his sister, Sandra Christian; and to his other
  relatives and friends; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives and Senate adjourn this day, they do so in memory of
  Robert Bruce Staples, Jr.
