  H.C.R. No. 168
 
 
 
HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
         WHEREAS, The Legislature of the State of Texas is pleased to
  recognize the Texas Juvenile Probation System and declare April 24,
  2007, as Texas Juvenile Probation Day at the State Capitol; and
         WHEREAS, The State of Texas and county governments are
  partners in providing one of the most progressive juvenile
  probation systems in the nation; and
         WHEREAS, Overseen by the Texas Juvenile Probation
  Commission, the Texas Juvenile Probation System is comprised of 169
  community-based probation departments which serve youth and
  families in all 254 counties in the state; and
         WHEREAS, In 1995 the Texas Legislature enacted reforms to
  provide greater accountability for offenders and increase funding,
  focusing on prevention and early intervention programs in an effort
  to increase public safety; with enhanced resources, juvenile
  probation system professionals are able to make a positive
  difference in the lives of many Texas youths and their families;
  and
         WHEREAS, The juvenile probation departments handle 97
  percent of the referrals of juveniles to the juvenile justice
  system each year through the efforts of more than 7,100 certified
  juvenile probation and detention officers; and
         WHEREAS, These dedicated men and women are represented by the
  Juvenile Justice Association of Texas, which promotes advocacy for
  Texas children by providing quality juvenile services through
  leadership, professional development, training, and education; and
         WHEREAS, Those who enter the field of juvenile probation
  accept a great responsibility to the youth and families of the Lone
  Star State; they work tirelessly and courageously to rehabilitate
  the lives of young people and maintain the security and safety of
  our communities, and they are truly deserving of our gratitude;
  now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the 80th Legislature of the State of Texas
  hereby commend the outstanding professionals of our juvenile
  probation system for their vital contributions to the citizens of
  Texas and extend sincere appreciation to them on Texas Juvenile
  Probation Day at the State Capitol.
