CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The Texas Legislature has a long history of
venerating military units by designating memorial highways in their
honor, and the exemplary service demonstrated by Texas members of
the 75th Ranger Regiment of the United States Army is certainly
worthy of such a tribute;  and
WHEREAS, Known to many as the United States Army Rangers, the
75th Ranger Regiment is an elite special operations force that can
trace its lineage to the American Revolutionary War; since the
beginning of World War II, the regiment has distinguished itself in
14 battles and wars, including the Battle of Normandy, the Battle of
the Bulge, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, Operation Enduring
Freedom, and Operation Iraqi Freedom; and
WHEREAS, Earning dozens of medals and citations, Texas
members of the 75th Ranger Regiment have served their country with
extraordinary heroism in battle; U.S. Army Corporal William M.
Amundson, Jr., of The Woodlands, for example, was a member of the
3rd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment, when he was killed in action in
eastern Afghanistan on October 19, 2004, and the sacrifices
Corporal Amundson made on the battlefield earned him the Bronze
Star, the Purple Heart, and the Meritorious Service Medal; and
WHEREAS, Membership in this exclusive force is signified by
the coveted black and gold Ranger tab as well as the 75th Ranger
Regiment patch; each time the legislature has named a highway or
highway segment to honor a military unit, the Texas Department of
Transportation has designed memorial markers to feature the
distinctive insignia worn by unit members;  designating State
Highway 75 as the 75th Ranger Regiment Highway and featuring the
unit's emblems on markers along the roadway would be a fitting
tribute to Corporal Amundson and the many Texans who have served as
United States Army Rangers; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the 80th Legislature of the State of Texas
hereby designate State Highway 75 between Streetman and Conroe as
the 75th Ranger Regiment Highway; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That the legislature hereby request that the Texas
Department of Transportation feature the Ranger tab and 75th Ranger
Regiment patch on memorial markers for the highway; and, be it
  further
RESOLVED, That the secretary of state forward an official
copy of this resolution to the chairman of the Texas Transportation
Commission and the executive director of the Texas Department of
  Transportation.
