HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
|
|
|
WHEREAS, A full and generous life came to an end with the |
|
|
death of 100-year-old J. W. Thomas of Mount Pleasant on April 14, |
|
|
2007; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, This remarkable Texan was born to John and Mary Crow |
|
|
Thomas in Titus County on that same day exactly 100 years ago; "Dub" |
|
|
Thomas would later serve his country as a member of the U.S. Army |
|
|
and lead a successful career as a design engineer; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Thomas enjoyed a rewarding marriage with Mary |
|
|
Mallory Thomas, and he was a loving father to his children, Byron |
|
|
and Sally, and a devoted grandfather to Sean and Peyton; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, A respected member of his community, Mr. Thomas was |
|
|
a valued congregant of Greggton United Methodist Church in |
|
|
Longview, as well as a member of Pine Tree Masonic Lodge No. 1396 |
|
|
and the Order of the Eastern Star; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Dub Thomas lived a caring and purposeful life, and |
|
|
he will always be remembered with great admiration and affection; |
|
|
now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the 80th Legislature of the State of Texas |
|
|
hereby pay tribute to the life of J. W. Thomas and extend sincere |
|
|
sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife, Mary Mallory |
|
|
Thomas; to his son, Byron Thomas; to his daughter, Sally Burnett; to |
|
|
his grandchildren, Sean Thomas and Peyton Burnett; to his brother, |
|
|
J. H. Thomas; to his sister, Lorene Owens; and to his other |
|
|
relatives and friends; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
|
|
Representatives and Senate adjourn this day, they do so in memory of |
|
|
Dub Thomas. |
