CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
         WHEREAS, Fred H. Tally Elementary School in Kerrville has
  been named a 2006-2007 National Title I Distinguished School by the
  National Association of State Title I Directors, and it is the only
  elementary school in Texas accorded that prestigious honor; and
         WHEREAS, This outstanding campus was chosen out of an
  estimated 5,000 elementary and high schools in Texas for this
  award, which was created to showcase Title I schools across the
  country that are striving to ensure that all children succeed,
  regardless of their demographic or socioeconomic background; and
         WHEREAS, In the relatively short time since its founding in
  2002, Tally Elementary has asserted itself as a leader in education
  and has earned an "Exemplary" rating from the Texas Education
  Agency; and
         WHEREAS, Under the leadership of principal Buck Thompson, the
  school serves approximately 530 students from the surrounding
  community; with a balanced curriculum based in reading and math,
  Tally also offers Spanish, orchestra, Community Problem Solvers,
  Character Counts, and Eagle Café, an incentive for children
  demonstrating exceptional character; and
         WHEREAS, The Lone Star State's most precious resource is its
  young people, and every Texan has a vested interest in ensuring that
  all our children receive a quality education; through their
  dedication and hard work, the faculty and staff of Fred H. Tally
  Elementary School have made this ideal a reality; now, therefore,
  be it
         RESOLVED, That the 80th Legislature of the State of Texas
  hereby congratulate Fred H. Tally Elementary School on its
  selection as a 2006-2007 National Title I Distinguished School and
  extend to all those associated with the school sincere best wishes
  for continued success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the school as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives and Senate.
