HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
         WHEREAS, Emma Louise Stengel Bean died on May 16, 2007,
  leaving her circle of family and friends to cherish their many
  treasured memories of time spent in her company; and
         WHEREAS, Born in Mason on July 18, 1913, the former "Dixie"
  Stengel came from a pioneer ranching family; she graduated from
  Menard High School in 1930 and attended Texas Woman's University in
  Denton and The University of Texas at Austin, where she majored in
  music; and
         WHEREAS, After returning to Menard, she married Rodgers
  Maxwell "Jelly" Bean on June 6, 1935; they enjoyed nearly 40 years
  together, until his death in 1973, and they were blessed with three
  children; and
         WHEREAS, A vital woman full of energy, Dixie Bean managed the
  family's commercial real estate business for 32 years after Mr.
  Bean's death; in her leisure time, she loved traveling around the
  world and playing bridge with friends; a gifted musician, she
  played the piano and organ for more than 70 years at First United
  Methodist Church and also taught piano; in addition, Mrs. Bean was a
  member of the Excelsior Study Club and a charter member of the
  Menard Country Club; and
         WHEREAS, A devoted wife and caring mother and grandmother,
  Dixie Bean touched the lives of countless individuals during her 93
  years, and she will be deeply missed; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the 80th Legislature of the State of Texas
  hereby pay tribute to the life of Emma Louise Stengel Bean and offer
  condolences to the members of her family: to her children, Gwen
  Swindall and her husband, Banner, George Bean, and Robert Bean and
  his wife, Nancy; to her grandchildren, John Hofmann and his wife,
  Shannon, Suzanne Erickson and her husband, Stephen, Jordan Bean and
  his wife, Adrian, Lauren Bean, and Craig Bean; to her
  great-grandchildren, Grant, Emma Jane, and Rhett Hofmann, John and
  David Erickson, and Preston Bean; to her sister, Grace Thompson,
  and her sister-in-law, Mary "Tootsie" Stengel; and to her other
  relatives and friends; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives and Senate adjourn this day, they do so in memory of
  Dixie Bean.
