CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
         WHEREAS, A full and generous life came to a close with the
  passing of Dean Vincent Grossnickle on May 3, 2007, at the age of
  91; and
         WHEREAS, Born in Kansas on August 22, 1915, Mr. Grossnickle
  attended Mission High School, where he excelled in academics and on
  the school's football team, earning the nickname of "Mission Flash"
  for his skills as a quarterback; he furthered his education at The
  University of Texas at Austin while working at the campus library to
  pay his tuition and graduated with highest honors in accounting;
  and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Grossnickle began his professional career with
  the Internal Revenue Service in San Antonio; it was there that he
  met the love of his life, Mary Louise McAnneny, whom he married in
  1941; the couple would eventually be blessed with two children as
  well as five grandchildren; and
         WHEREAS, Answering his country's call to serve,
  Mr. Grossnickle enlisted in the U.S. Navy and attended Officers
  Training School at Harvard University; his tour of duty during
  World War II took him to the Aleutian Islands of Alaska, and he
  earned the rank of captain; and
         WHEREAS, After the war, Mr. Grossnickle returned to civilian
  life and settled in Dallas, where he worked as a C.P.A. for Arthur
  Anderson and earned a degree from the Southern Methodist University
  School of Law; his legal career began in the tax department of
  Dresser Industries, a position that afforded him opportunities for
  world travel, and he later served as a partner with Peat, Marwick,
  and Mitchell law firm, from which he retired; he later returned to
  work as an attorney for the firm of Raggio & Raggio; and
         WHEREAS, A lifelong member of Lovers Lane United Methodist
  Church, Mr. Grossnickle spent his later years in Paris and in
  Dallas, and he and his wife enjoyed boating, fishing, and golf; and
         WHEREAS, Dean Grossnickle will long be remembered for his wit
  and charm, as well as for his honesty and generosity, and he leaves
  behind a legacy that will be forever treasured by those who held him
  dear; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the 80th Legislature of the State of Texas
  hereby pay tribute to the life of Dean Vincent Grossnickle and
  extend sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife of 65
  years, Mary Lou Grossnickle; to his children, Carol Lee
  Collinsworth and Dr. Richard Grossnickle and his wife, Lisa; to his
  grandchildren, Allison Lee and Jason Dean Collinsworth and Emily
  Ann, Dixon Beck, and Lucas Dean Grossnickle; and to his other
  relatives and friends; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives and Senate adjourn this day, they do so in memory of
  Dean Vincent Grossnickle.
