CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
         WHEREAS, Lancaster residents are excited about the new
  Lancaster Visitors Center that will be housed in the city's
  historic Interurban Building in downtown Lancaster once
  renovations of the building are completed; and
         WHEREAS, Built in 1911, the Interurban Building was home to
  the Texas Interurban Railway that ran from Waxahachie through Red
  Oak, Lancaster, and Dallas to Sherman-Denison until the 1950s; it
  was also the region's first electric-powered building and where
  area residents' electricity bills were paid for more than 50 years;
  and
         WHEREAS, The Interurban Building renovation project received
  a federal grant for 1999-2000 through the Statewide Transportation
  Enhancement Program administered by the Texas Department of
  Transportation because of the historic project's impact for Texas
  roadways, as the project is located on State Highway 342 across the
  street from Heritage Park and Gazebo; and
         WHEREAS, Designating the new Lancaster Visitors Center as an
  auxiliary Texas museum would help transform the Interurban Building
  into a premier attraction for the area; and
         WHEREAS, The Lancaster Visitors Center will truly be a unique
  resource for both residents and visitors of Texas alike and is
  indeed deserving of this designation; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the 80th Legislature of the State of Texas
  hereby designate the Lancaster Visitors Center as an auxiliary
  Texas museum.
