A JOINT RESOLUTION
|
|
|
proposing a constitutional amendment creating a trust fund for |
|
|
providing financial support to students attending private or |
|
|
independent institutions of higher education in this state. |
|
|
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Article VII, Texas Constitution, is amended by |
|
|
adding Section 20 to read as follows: |
|
|
Sec. 20. The legislature by law may transfer money out of |
|
|
the general revenue fund into a trust fund established by general |
|
|
law outside the treasury, to be known as the Bob Hunter trust fund. |
|
|
The trust fund shall be maintained as a permanent endowment to |
|
|
provide grants to students attending private and independent |
|
|
institutions of higher education in this state in order to: |
|
|
(1) fairly support the education of all residents of |
|
|
this state attending institutions of higher education in this |
|
|
state; and |
|
|
(2) maintain the quality of all higher educational |
|
|
resources in this state. |
|
|
SECTION 2. This proposed constitutional amendment shall be |
|
|
submitted to the voters at an election to be held November 6, 2007. |
|
|
The ballot shall be printed to permit voting for or against the |
|
|
proposition: "The constitutional amendment creating a trust fund |
|
|
for providing financial support to students attending private or |
|
|
independent institutions of higher education in this state." |
