R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, A 90th birthday is truly cause for celebration, and
  Anna Haisler Baker marked this special milestone in her life on
  September 9, 2006; and
         WHEREAS, Born in Caldwell in 1916, Anna Haisler was about
  eight years old when she moved with her family to Alief; some nine
  years later she married James Mayes "J. M." Baker, and the couple
  became the parents of five beloved children, James, David, Alva,
  Linda, and Billy; and
         WHEREAS, Capable and hardworking, Anna Baker mastered skills
  that were rarely acquired by women in her day, for she helped to
  build houses, drove dump trucks, and became the first woman to be
  employed as a bus driver for the Katy Independent School District;
  she held the latter job for 22 years, and during that time she had
  the memorable experience of driving a bus to the 1959 play-off game
  that gave Katy High School its first state football championship;
  before retiring from the Katy ISD in 1985, Mrs. Baker also managed
  the Addicks Elementary School cafeteria, worked as a custodian at
  Katy High School, and painted school buildings over the summer
  break; and
         WHEREAS, A resident of Harris County for more than 75 years,
  Anna Baker joined the First Presbyterian Church of Barker in 1947,
  and she remains a vital member of that congregation, which has
  reorganized in Katy as New Hope Presbyterian; as she enters her 10th
  decade, this delightful woman continues to be involved in a number
  of activities, serving on several church committees, visiting with
  residents of the Katyville Nursing Center, attending Katy High
  School football games, and enjoying recreational programs
  sponsored by Katy Social Services, especially games of 88; and
         WHEREAS, Over the years, Mrs. Baker has contributed steadily
  to her community and enriched immeasurably the lives of her family
  and friends; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Anna Haisler Baker on her 90th
  birthday and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued
  happiness and good fortune; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mrs. Baker as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
