R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The Spring community lost a much-loved and admired
  teacher on August 3, 2006, when Gay Susan Chandler Mechler passed
  away at the age of 55; and
         WHEREAS, Born in Atlanta, Georgia, on September 28, 1950, the
  former Susie Chandler came to Dallas in 1956 and graduated from
  Thomas Jefferson High School in 1968; she attended the University
  of Arkansas for a year before transferring to Stephen F. Austin
  State University in Nacogdoches to be with her high school
  sweetheart, Floyd A. Mechler, Jr.; the couple were married in
  Dallas on August 15, 1970; and
         WHEREAS, After graduating from SFASU, Mrs. Mechler began her
  32-year career in education as a sixth-grade science teacher with
  Humble Middle School; after teaching for a year in Kansas City, she
  returned to Texas and was hired to teach for the Klein Independent
  School District; in 1978, she joined the faculty of Strack
  Intermediate School, where she would remain for the next 27 years
  teaching sixth-graders math and honors math; and
         WHEREAS, Through hard work and an uncompromising commitment
  to setting her students on the path to bright and rewarding futures,
  this exceptional educator touched the lives of countless young
  Texans, and she will be deeply missed by them, as well as by her
  family and many friends; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Gay Susan Chandler
  Mechler and extend sincere sympathy to the members of her family:  
  to her husband, Floyd A. Mechler, Jr.; to her mother, Gay Heim
  Chandler; to her daughter, Michelle Sheridan, and her husband,
  Rick; to her son, Russell E. Mechler, and his fiancée, Danielle
  Stephens; to her granddaughter, Amy Sheridan; to her brother, Fred
  R. Chandler, Jr., and his wife, Phyllis; and to her other relatives
  and friends; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Susie
  Mechler.
