R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Amos McCord of Hughes Springs was awarded a
  well-deserved honor when he was selected to participate in the NASA
  High School Aerospace Scholars program; and
         WHEREAS, Funded by the State of Texas, Rotary NASA, and the
  Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, the HAS program serves to foster
  interest in science, technology, engineering, and math careers
  among high school students; throughout the internship,
  participants are mentored by NASA engineers, a college co-op, and a
  teacher counselor; and
         WHEREAS, A dedicated and well-rounded student, Mr. McCord
  excels in both academics and athletics at Hughes Springs High
  School; his achievements in math and science made him an ideal
  candidate for the program, which began in December 2005 with six
  months of distance learning assignments; this past summer he
  traveled to Houston, where he spent six days at the Johnson Space
  Center interacting with NASA engineers and working with a team to
  design a manned mission to Mars; and
         WHEREAS, This outstanding young Texan is a source of great
  pride to his family and school, and it is a pleasure to honor him for
  his commitment to academic excellence; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby commend Amos McCord for his participation in the
  NASA High School Aerospace Scholars program and extend to him
  sincere best wishes for success in all his future endeavors; and, be
  it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. McCord as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
