R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Marguerite Anna Treuthardt Whitehead marked the
  very special occasion of her 100th birthday on August 15, 2006, and
  a century's worth of joyful times and meaningful accomplishments is
  truly cause for celebration; and
         WHEREAS, Born in Georgetown in 1906, the former Miss
  Treuthardt grew up on a farm alongside the North San Gabriel River;
  during her junior year of high school, she and her classmates
  skipped school and took a trip to Austin, where they toured the
  State Capitol and had a chance visit with Governor Miriam A. "Ma"
  Ferguson, who told the girls she did not approve of their trousers;
  after spending the afternoon at Barton Springs, the group returned
  home to find their adventure would cost the class a Saturday in
  school; after graduating from Georgetown High School in 1925 and
  attending Nixon Clay Business School in Austin, she worked in the
  insurance and banking industries for a number of years and was
  instrumental in examining the collapse of Central Texas banks
  following the stock market crash of 1929; and
         WHEREAS, She married Roy Laughton Whitehead in 1933 and the
  couple moved to Longview, where Mrs. Whitehead devoted herself to
  maintaining the family's home and raising their two children,
  Barbara Ann and Laughton; in the years since then, the family has
  grown to include Barbara's husband, Donald Joe Kiser, and
  Laughton's wife, the former Martha Frances Hess, six grandchildren,
  Donald and his wife, Mary Beth, Sara and her husband, Jerry, Julie
  and her husband, Malcolm, Roy and his wife, Elizabeth, George and
  his wife, Dandre, and Anna, and 12 great-grandchildren, Anna, Sara,
  Jack, Henry, Malcolm, John, Roy, Andrew, Ellen, Anna, Brooks, and
  Sally, all of whom Mrs. Whitehead is very proud; and
         WHEREAS, Once an active member of First Presbyterian Church,
  Mrs. Whitehead continues to study the Bible, and in 2004 and 2005
  she devoted herself to reading it through from beginning to end; she
  is a talented seamstress, proficient in embroidery, sewing,
  knitting, tatting, crochet, and cross-stitch, and has crocheted
  more than 100 blankets for Project Linus, a volunteer organization
  that supplies blankets to premature babies in hospitals; over the
  years, she has enjoyed gardening, fishing, watching Texas Ranger
  baseball, and working crossword puzzles, which she continues to
  complete daily in ink; and
         WHEREAS, A gifted storyteller, Mrs. Whitehead spent New
  Year's Eve 1999 sharing her memories of the 20th century with her
  extended family; through all of her many experiences, this gracious
  lady has brought joy and happiness to the countless people whose
  lives she has touched, and it is a pleasure to join her loved ones in
  honoring her; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby warmly congratulate Marguerite Anna Treuthardt
  Whitehead on her 100th birthday and extend to her sincere best
  wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mrs. Whitehead as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
