R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Memories of a life filled with joyful times and
  meaningful accomplishments may comfort the family and friends of
  the Honorable Ray Allen Lemmon of Houston, who passed away on
  January 9, 2007; and
         WHEREAS, Born and reared in the Bayou City, Mr. Lemmon
  graduated from the University of Houston and remained a committed
  Cougar throughout his life; a veteran of World War II, he proudly
  served his country as a member of the U.S. Marine Corps during
  combat operations in the South Pacific; and
         WHEREAS, Following his return to civilian life, Mr. Lemmon
  gained employment with Southern Pacific Railroad; after starting a
  family, he established his own company, Ray Lemmon Insurance, and
  this successful venture later grew to include real estate services;
  by the end of his career, Mr. Lemmon was considered an expert in his
  field and was often called on to serve as a court-appointed receiver
  and to offer testimony at the courthouse; and
         WHEREAS, In 1968, this respected businessman was elected to
  the Texas House of Representatives, serving the citizens of
  District 24 in the 61st and 62nd legislative sessions; during his
  tenure in office, Representative Lemmon authored or coauthored
  bills creating The University of Texas Medical School at Houston,
  the Texas Tourist Development Agency, six new courts in Harris
  County, and the Texas Council on Marine Related Affairs; and
         WHEREAS, He was a dedicated civic leader as well as a charter
  member of Emerson Unitarian Church, which he served on its board of
  trustees; his myriad other affiliations included membership for
  more than a half-century in Anson Jones Masonic Lodge No. 1313,
  where he held the position of Worshipful Master and earned the
  Golden Trowel Award for Service; and
         WHEREAS, A cherished family man, community leader, and public
  servant, Ray Lemmon leaves behind a legacy of achievement that will
  continue to resonate in the lives of his fellow Texans for years to
  come; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby pay special tribute to the life of the Honorable
  Ray Allen Lemmon and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his
  family: to his daughters, Trish Baldwin-Hagner and her husband,
  Buddy, Lori Thomson and her husband, Robert, and Paula Ann Petritz;
  to his son, David Lemmon; to his grandchildren, Shawn Lemmon Shaw,
  Nicole and Michelle Petritz, Chris and Anneke Lemmon, and Hunter
  Grace Thomson; to his loved one, Susanna Painter; and to his other
  relatives and friends; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Ray Allen
  Lemmon.
