R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Canton residents Don and Ann Metch have been honored
  by the Texas Polled Hereford Association (TPHA) in recognition of
  their service to the organization and their contributions to
  agriculture in the Lone Star State; and
         WHEREAS, Active in the TPHA since their move to Texas in 1982,
  Mr. and Mrs. Metch have been invaluable members of the
  organization, giving generously of their time, talents, and noted
  leadership abilities; Mr. Metch is a former vice president and
  president and served as a director from 1988 to 1991; Mrs. Metch, a
  director of the Texas Poll-ettes from 1985 to 1987, held the offices
  of vice president and president and had the distinction of being the
  first voting member of the Poll-ettes on the TPHA Board of
  Directors; and
         WHEREAS, This notable couple have been excelling in the field
  of agriculture since their days as members of 4-H, when they first
  met; they became involved with Hereford cattle in 1969, following
  working in the dairy business and crop farming in New Jersey, and
  today, their 410-acre Texas ranch has grown from nine animals to
  more than 155 registered Polled Herefords and 10 recipient cows,
  seven of which have been named Dams of Distinction; they also own a
  nursery brokerage company, selling plants and trees in Texas,
  Oklahoma, and New Mexico; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Metch is a past chairman of the Texas Harvest
  Sale, which he helped organize, a member of the Texas Association of
  Nurserymen, and secretary and treasurer of the Van Zandt County
  Farm Bureau; he volunteered for 17 years as a beef club leader with
  4-H, helping countless young people win state and national awards,
  and both Mr. and Mrs. Metch have served as delegates to the State
  Farm Bureau convention and commodity conference; Mr. Metch received
  the 1991 outstanding Van Zandt County Beef Producer Award, and he
  was named 1998 Agriculturalist of the Year; Mrs. Metch was named
  Texas Poll-ette of the Year in 1988; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Metch are active members of the Four
  Mile Lutheran Church, where she is part of the Altar Guild and he is
  the cemetery chairman and a former president of the church council;
  they are also charter members of the Van Zandt County Republican
  Club; in addition, Mrs. Metch has served as a precinct chairman and
  election judge, and both have attended the Republican state
  convention as delegates for the past 22 years; and
         WHEREAS, With their continuing hard work and dedication to
  excellence, Don and Ann Metch are making a positive difference in
  the lives and economic well-being of many, and they are most
  deserving of special recognition; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Don and Ann Metch on their
  selection as 2007 Honorees of the Texas Polled Hereford Association
  and extend to them best wishes for the future; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. and Mrs. Metch as an expression of high regard by
  the Texas House of Representatives.
