R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, NASA Administrator Michael D. Griffin is being |
|
honored by the Bay Area Houston Economic Partnership at its 2007 |
|
annual banquet; and |
|
WHEREAS, Dr. Griffin began his tenure as NASA Administrator |
|
on April 14, 2005, following his nomination by President George W. |
|
Bush and his subsequent confirmation by the United States Senate; |
|
he is the 11th Administrator of the National Aeronautics and Space |
|
Administration, and his duties include leading the NASA team and |
|
managing its resources to advance the U.S. Vision for Space |
|
Exploration; and |
|
WHEREAS, Supremely qualified to undertake this challenging |
|
and demanding role, Dr. Griffin has previously served as space |
|
department head at Johns Hopkins University's Applied Physics |
|
Laboratory, as president and chief operating officer of In-Q-Tel, |
|
Inc., and in leadership roles with Orbital Sciences Corporation; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, Dr. Griffin also has ties to the NASA family, having |
|
served as chief engineer and as associate administrator for |
|
exploration; in addition, he has worked as deputy for technology at |
|
the Strategic Defense Initiative Organization; and |
|
WHEREAS, This noted scientist holds multiple degrees from |
|
several of America's top schools, including a bachelor's degree in |
|
physics and a master's degree in applied physics from Johns Hopkins |
|
University and a Ph.D. in aerospace engineering from the University |
|
of Maryland; he has also earned master's degrees in aerospace |
|
science from Catholic University of America, electrical |
|
engineering from the University of Southern California, business |
|
administration from Loyola College, and civil engineering from |
|
George Washington University; and |
|
WHEREAS, Dr. Griffin is a registered professional engineer in |
|
Maryland and California, as well as a member of the Institute of |
|
Electrical and Electronic Engineers, the National Academy of |
|
Engineering, the International Academy of Astronautics, and other |
|
esteemed organizations; moreover, he is a recipient of the NASA |
|
Exceptional Achievement Medal and the Department of Defense |
|
Distinguished Public Service Medal, the highest honor awarded to a |
|
non-governmental employee; and |
|
WHEREAS, In all of his pursuits, Dr. Griffin has demonstrated |
|
exceptional ability and steadfast dedication, and these qualities |
|
have been a great asset in his commendable efforts as NASA |
|
Administrator; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby honor Dr. Michael D. Griffin for his superlative |
|
achievements as NASA Administrator and extend best wishes to him |
|
for continued success; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Dr. Griffin as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
