R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, January 20, 2007, marked a significant milestone in
  the life of Travis E. Nelson of Bryan, for on that day he celebrated
  his 85th birthday; and
         WHEREAS, Born in 1922 in Bryan, Travis Nelson graduated from
  Stephen F. Austin High School in 1939 and went on to earn a
  bachelor's of business administration degree in 1943 from Baylor
  University, where he lettered all four years in football and
  baseball; he served in the U.S. Navy during World War II aboard the
  USS Tabberer and was a lieutenant commander in the U.S. Naval
  Reserves for 15 years; and
         WHEREAS, After the war, this fourth-generation Texan opened
  the Midway Motel, located between Bryan and College Station; in
  1962, he embarked on a 20-year career as business manager of the
  Bryan Independent School District, and the following year, he was
  elected to the Bryan City Council, for which he served two terms;
  after retirement, he continued to distinguish himself through
  public service for nearly two decades, first as a member of the
  school board and then as district clerk for Brazos County; and
         WHEREAS, Travis Nelson has gained the respect and admiration
  of countless people for his contributions to his community, state,
  and nation, and his birthday provides a special opportunity to
  honor him for his myriad accomplishments; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Travis E. Nelson on his 85th
  birthday and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued
  happiness; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Nelson as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
