R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Family and friends have sustained a deep loss with
  the untimely passing of Mary G. Cruz of San Antonio on November 24,
  2006; and
         WHEREAS, The mother-in-law of the Honorable Frank Madla, a
  longtime Texas state representative and senator, Mrs. Cruz was born
  on December 24, 1924; she was the devoted wife of Louis Cruz, with
  whom she shared a happy and rewarding union of 44 years, until his
  death in 1999; and
         WHEREAS, Endowed with a great capacity for hard work and a
  keen interest in seeing to the successful dispatch of all
  undertakings within her purview, she helped to manage the couple's
  business, a grocery store and party house, and supervised, on a more
  informal basis, all manner of family projects, from tinkering
  around under the hood to making tamales; and
         WHEREAS, Mrs. Cruz embraced life with a generous heart and
  exuberant spirit; many things gave her joy: cooking and baking,
  visiting with family, friends, and neighbors over coffee and
  cookies, crocheting beautiful afghans and giving them to her family
  and to every new baby, and spending time in her garden, tending her
  roses and other flowers and swinging by the pond as she watched her
  koi swim; and
         WHEREAS, She laughed easily and often and delighted in
  festive gatherings; an accomplished dancer, Mrs. Cruz also loved
  mariachi music and would join enthusiastically in the singing; and
         WHEREAS, Mary Cruz was greatly treasured by all who shared in
  the warmth of her friendship and affection, and those who were
  privileged to be a part of the world she graced will forever hold
  her close in their hearts; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Mary G. Cruz and
  extend sincere sympathy to the members of her family: to her
  children, Hope McAnulty, Mary Ann Cruz, Gina Garcia, Gloria Knauf,
  Helen Madla, Diane Cruz, Louis Cruz, Jr., and Robert Cruz; to her 13
  grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; and to her many other
  relatives and friends; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Mary G.
  Cruz.
