R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, James "Chick" Herrin has been honored with selection
  as an inaugural inductee into the International Lineman's Hall of
  Fame; and
         WHEREAS, Created in 2006 to pay tribute to linemen and others
  who have contributed to the safety and continued success of the
  electrical industry, the hall of fame aims to recognize the
  sacrifices and unwavering dedication of these outstanding
  individuals; and
         WHEREAS, With his induction, Mr. Herrin, the only living hall
  of fame member, joins the ranks of such important figures as Thomas
  Edison, the inventor of the first commercially practical
  incandescent light, and Henry Miller, the founder of what is today
  known as the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Herrin climbed his first utility pole at the age
  of eight and has since forged for himself a notable career as a
  utility lineman; over the course of his varied and exciting four
  decades in the business, he has serviced steel towers with
  helicopters, worked in the swamps of Louisiana and the mountains of
  New Mexico and Colorado, and given of his time and talents to the
  hurricane-ravaged town of San Augustine; he has been employed with
  Bryan Texas Utilities for the past 22 years and currently is the
  company's lineman supervisor; and
         WHEREAS, A board member of the Texas Lineman's Rodeo
  Association, Mr. Herrin is known for more than his dedication to his
  job; he is the husband of Patty, with whom he qualified for the
  state bowling tournament in the 2005 Senior Olympics, and is a
  songwriter and musician, a loving grandfather, and a faithful
  friend; and
         WHEREAS, Throughout his career, Chick Herrin has gone above
  and beyond the call of duty and exemplified a sterling work ethic,
  an admirable sense of modesty, and a passion for professional
  excellence; he has earned the lasting respect and admiration of all
  who are privileged to know him, and he may reflect with great pride
  on his many achievements; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate James Herrin on being inducted into
  the International Lineman's Hall of Fame and extend to him best
  wishes for the future; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Herrin as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
