R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The San Antonio Public Library has been honored with
  a 2006 National Award for Museum and Library Service in recognition
  of its ambitious vision and vital contributions to the people of
  Bexar County; and
         WHEREAS, The library was one of three libraries and three
  museums from across the nation that were selected to receive this
  prestigious accolade, which is conferred by the Institute of Museum
  and Library Services; and
         WHEREAS, Singled out for special commendation at the San
  Antonio Public Library were two endeavors intended to foster
  reading in homes with small children; through the Born to Read
  program, the library seeks to provide two bilingual children's
  books and an application for a library card to every baby born in
  Bexar County; the library has also established an initiative called
  Little Read Wagon, whose staff help child-care workers and parents
  develop effective techniques for promoting early childhood
  literacy; and
         WHEREAS, Those innovative programs are indicative of the
  commitment the library has made to supporting literacy and learning
  throughout the community; determined to address the needs of all
  area residents, regardless of age, physical ability, or racial or
  ethnic background, the San Antonio Public Library has become a
  model civic resource and an integral institution in the life of its
  city; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate the San Antonio Public Library on
  its receipt of a 2006 National Award for Museum and Library Service
  from the Institute of Museum and Library Services and extend to its
  volunteers, staff, and board sincere best wishes for continued
  success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the library as an expression of the sentiment of the
  Texas House of Representatives.
