R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Hortencia Ramos, the first Hispanic elected to a
  countywide office in Brewster County, retired from her post as
  county treasurer on December 31, 2006, drawing to a close an
  outstanding tenure in office that spanned 25 years; and
         WHEREAS, Ms. Ramos joined the staff of Brewster County in
  1976, working for a time in the treasurer's office and the county
  clerk's office before being elected county treasurer in 1981; in
  the decades since, she has faithfully served county taxpayers with
  sound policies and fiscal responsibility, earning the respect of
  colleagues and citizens alike; and
         WHEREAS, A devoted mother, grandmother, and
  great-grandmother, Ms. Ramos is a valued congregant at Our Lady of
  Peace Catholic Church; and
         WHEREAS, Over the course of her distinguished public-service
  career, Ms. Ramos has served Brewster County with integrity and
  dedication, and she is most deserving of special recognition; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Hortencia Ramos on the occasion of
  her retirement as treasurer of Brewster County and extend to her
  deep gratitude for her exemplary public service; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Ms. Ramos as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
