R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The long and productive life of a pioneering Texas
  architect has drawn to a close with the passing of Daniel Boone of
  Abilene on December 25, 2006, at the age of 93; and
         WHEREAS, Dan Boone was born in Waco on December 4, 1913, the
  son of Harry Holmes Boone and Clara Whiteman Boone; he graduated
  from high school in Fort Worth and was trained as an architect at
  The University of Texas at Austin; and
         WHEREAS, In 1943, Mr. Boone answered his country's call to
  duty in World War II; commissioned as a captain in the United States
  Army Corps of Engineers, he served a 30-month tour of duty in
  Europe; and
         WHEREAS, Following the war, he settled in Abilene and was
  employed by architect David S. Castle; in 1956, Mr. Boone joined
  with engineer William Pope to form the architectural firm of Boone
  and Pope; over the next 30 years, the firm designed and built a
  number of important buildings in West Texas, including the Abilene
  City Hall, the Abilene Civic Center, the Taylor County Expo Center
  Coliseum in Abilene, and the city's Mann and Madison Middle
  Schools; Boone and Pope also designed significant buildings on the
  campuses of McMurry University and Hardin-Simmons University; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Boone was highly respected in his profession,
  serving as president of the Texas Society of Architects and
  representing Texas on the American Institute of Architects Board of
  Directors; he was also elected to the board of directors of the
  National Council of Architectural Registration Boards and served
  for a year as its president; in 1972, Dan Boone received the Pitts
  Award from the Texas Society of Architects for distinguished
  service to the profession, that organization's highest honor; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Boone is fondly remembered as an expert and
  passionate fly fisherman, the veteran of many happy fishing
  expeditions with his friends and family; Dan Boone was respected
  for his fairness, honesty, and assured leadership, and his
  contributions to West Texas architecture will stand as an enduring
  example of professional excellence and integrity; now, therefore,
  be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Daniel Boone and
  extend sincere condolences to the members of his family: to his
  wife, Mary Ellen; to his sons, Daniel and his wife, Ann, and Mark
  and his wife, Julie; to his stepson, Logan Wilson; to his
  grandchildren, Kade, Matthew, Rhoda, and William; to his
  great-grandchildren, Ashley and Isabella; and to the other
  relatives and friends of this talented architect; and, be it
  further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Daniel
  Boone.
