R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Malcom Thomas, Sr., of Eagle Lake passed away on |
|
December 5, 2006, at the age of 40, and his untimely death has left a |
|
void in the lives of those who knew and loved him; and |
|
WHEREAS, A lifelong resident of Eagle Lake and a valued |
|
employee of the LCRA, Mike Thomas was born on September 24, 1966; as |
|
a youth, he confessed to Christ as a member of White Cloud Baptist |
|
Church, where he later served as a deacon and as co-chairman of the |
|
White Cloud Baptist Church Deacon Board; and |
|
WHEREAS, After graduating from Rice High School in 1985, Mr. |
|
Thomas worked as a school bus driver for Rice ISD for many years; on |
|
June 10, 1989, he married the former Marsha McTear, and their union |
|
was blessed with three children: Macelsey, Machelsea, and Malcom |
|
Thomas, Jr.; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Thomas joined the staff of the LCRA as an |
|
apprentice and steadily rose through the ranks to become an |
|
irrigation coordinator and, ultimately, a crew leader in the |
|
Lakeside Irrigation District; he managed the seven-member staff of |
|
the Lakeside canal system and operated a section of the canal; and |
|
WHEREAS, A hard-working family man, Mr. Thomas was passionate |
|
about contributing to the betterment of his community and often |
|
sought out volunteer opportunities; notably, he was the first |
|
African American to volunteer with the Eagle Lake Fire Department; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Thomas was devout in his faith and was an active |
|
member of Providence Baptist Church, where he was a deacon and choir |
|
member; his generosity and strength of character endeared him to |
|
many during his time on this earth, and the light of his memory will |
|
continue to shine in the hearts of his friends and loved ones; now, |
|
therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Malcom Thomas, Sr., |
|
and extend deepest sympathy to the members of his family: to his |
|
wife, Marsha Thomas; to his daughters, Macelsey and Machelsea |
|
Thomas; to his son, Malcom Thomas, Jr.; to his mother, Earleen |
|
Upson; to his sisters and brothers-in-law, Aberleen Lemons, |
|
Marcella Foster and her husband, Arthur, Ruby Johnson, and Odessa |
|
Thomas and her husband, David; to his brothers and sisters-in-law, |
|
Jessie Upson and his wife, Diane, Cordis Upson and his wife, |
|
Carlene, Oliver Thomas and his wife, Catherine, Raymond Thomas, and |
|
Edward Thomas and his wife, Eve; to his mother- and father-in-law, |
|
Deacon Alex and Debra Woolridge; to his aunts, Betty Jean Pettus, |
|
Ruby C. King, Lillie Mae Johnson, Castella Hall, and Arie Lee |
|
Spears; to his uncle, Frank Pettus; to his goddaughters, Destinee |
|
Jackson, Monica Barrow, Shanique Williams, and Kendall Bailey; to |
|
his godsons, Tremaine McGrew, Desmond Thomas, Jaelan Crawford, and |
|
Jordan Johnson; to his good friend, Pastor Dave Curry; and to the |
|
other relatives and many friends of this beloved man; and, be it |
|
further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Malcom |
|
Thomas, Sr. |
