R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Frances Leff of Houston has contributed to the
  vitality of state and local politics as a fund-raiser for more than
  20 years, and on February 1, 2007, the League of Women Voters
  Education Fund is honoring her accomplishments at its sixth annual
  Repast with a Pair of Political Pioneers; and
         WHEREAS, Mrs. Leff first made her mark on Texas politics in
  1986, when she organized fund-raisers for the second election
  campaign of Governor Bill Clements; she went on to work for United
  States Senator Phil Gramm, helping to put together the 1988 Lone
  Star Spangled Celebration, attended by then Vice President George
  H. W. Bush and President Ronald Reagan; the following year, in
  addition to organizing several events for Governor Clements, she
  became fund-raising coordinator for Harris County Precinct 3
  Commissioner Ned Holmes; and
         WHEREAS, Since then, Mrs. Leff has shared her time and
  talents with countless political campaigns; her impressive resume
  includes work in behalf of Harris County Judge Robert Eckels,
  Precinct 2 Commissioner Sylvia Garcia, Precinct 4 Commissioner
  Jerry Eversole, District Clerk Charles Bacarisse, Senator Rodney
  Ellis, Senator Steve Ogden, Representative Sheila Jackson Lee,
  Attorney General Greg Abbott, United States Senator Kay Bailey
  Hutchison, Democratic gubernatorial candidate Chris Bell, and
  Lieutenant Governor David Dewhurst; moreover, she regularly
  organizes functions for Governor Rick Perry; and
         WHEREAS, A native of Galveston, this public-spirited woman
  attended The University of Texas in 1947 before meeting and
  marrying Charles Leff, with whom she has shared nearly six decades;
  she was a dedicated homemaker for many years while her two children
  were young; and
         WHEREAS, Frances Leff is highly respected for the enthusiasm,
  commitment, and steadfast energy she brings to bear on her myriad
  endeavors, and it is most fitting to recognize her at this time;
  now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby commend Frances Leff for her long-standing and
  exceptional record of civic engagement and extend to her sincere
  best wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mrs. Leff as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
