H.R. No. 198
 
 
 
R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Angel Garza of San Ygnacio retired from the Zapata
  County Commissioners Court on December 31, 2006, after more than 30
  years of dedicated public service; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Garza represented the people of Precinct 2 for
  six terms, and during the course of his distinguished 24-year
  tenure, he played an integral role in garnering funds for parks,
  pools, roads, libraries, and civic centers; and
         WHEREAS, His leadership also helped to significantly boost
  county employee benefits and increase support for local sheriff and
  fire departments; in 2006, the county was able to build a new $12
  million courthouse, and a new public library for San Ygnacio is
  currently in the works; and
         WHEREAS, Before winning election to the commissioners court
  in 1982, Mr. Garza served his fellow citizens as justice of the
  peace for nearly a decade, performing more than 100 weddings during
  his tenure; and
         WHEREAS, Throughout much of his service to the county, this
  esteemed civic leader also taught elementary school, joining Zapata
  ISD in 1970 after graduating from Texas A&I University in
  Kingsville; he later earned a master's degree from Laredo State
  University; and
         WHEREAS, Angel Garza has distinguished himself as an
  invaluable asset to the citizens of Zapata County, and he may take
  justifiable pride in the legacy of achievement he leaves behind;
  now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby honor Angel Garza for his years of service as
  Zapata County commissioner and extend to him best wishes for a
  rewarding retirement; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Garza as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
