R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, The Angleton community suffered a major loss with |
|
the untimely passing of Dr. Jessica Lynne Perryman on January 8, |
|
2007, at the age of 55, and her loss has left a void in the lives of |
|
all who knew and loved her; and |
|
WHEREAS, Dr. Perryman was born on August 16, 1951; she |
|
graduated from Angleton High School in 1969 and The University of |
|
Texas in 1972, becoming a classroom science teacher in 1973; and |
|
WHEREAS, Returning to her home school district in 1975, she |
|
earned her master's degree and doctorate from the University of |
|
Houston; she became director of Gifted and Talented Education, |
|
director of Special Programs, assistant superintendent, and |
|
Angleton ISD superintendent before resigning in 2004; and |
|
WHEREAS, With her unique perspective as a student, teacher, |
|
and administrator, Dr. Perryman knew Angleton ISD, and was |
|
instrumental in creating new technological, curriculum, and |
|
accountability programs to strengthen the schools; and |
|
WHEREAS, Dr. Perryman was a tireless worker, who led by |
|
example and earned the highest respect of the district's students, |
|
teachers, administrators, and parents; and |
|
WHEREAS, This consummate educator served as a mentor for many |
|
who benefited greatly from her guidance and support and who are |
|
honoring her legacy today by following in her footsteps; and |
|
WHEREAS, Under her leadership, Angleton ISD achieved notable |
|
academic success; she helped the district garner exemplary ratings |
|
from the Texas Education Agency for five consecutive years, and she |
|
was instrumental in the establishment of a foundation for future |
|
successes that remains strong today; and |
|
WHEREAS, This notable descendent of the first settlers in |
|
Texas was presented the Stephen F. Austin Leadership Award by the |
|
Brazoria County Historical Society for demonstrating leadership |
|
qualities expressed by the father of the Lone Star State; she was a |
|
beloved teacher and administrator and her achievements will |
|
continue to benefit her community for years to come; now, |
|
therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Dr. Jessica Lynne |
|
Perryman and extend sincere sympathy to the members of her family: |
|
to her beloved mother, Sarah Mathews Bergen; to her cousins, Elaine |
|
and Patton Caldwell, Bobby and Beverly Mathews, Russell Mathews, |
|
Hal Schade, Peni and Tres Basse, Tommy Mathews, Donna and Burch |
|
Loggins, and Tissie and Robert Schwebel; to her godmother, Harriett |
|
Sharpe Cochran; to her special friends, Diane and Darrell Taylor |
|
and Wendy, Mark, Jessica Lynne, and David Elliot Bonnen; and to the |
|
many friends and colleagues who mourn her loss; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Dr. Jessica |
|
Lynne Perryman. |
