R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The State of Texas lost an esteemed educator and
  public servant with the passing of the Honorable Glenda Dawson of
  Pearland on September 12, 2006; and
         WHEREAS, Before her election to the Texas House of
  Representatives in 2002, Glenda Dawson had a notable career in
  education that spanned more than three decades; her passion for
  teaching earned her the Pearland I.S.D. Teacher of the Year Award in
  1989, and in 2000, that school district created the Glenda Dawson
  First Year Teacher Award in honor of her exceptional commitment to
  public education; her employment history also included training
  future educators as an adjunct professor and instructional
  supervisor for secondary teachers at the University of Houston; a
  graduate of Sam Houston State University, she received the school's
  Distinguished Alumni Award in 2005; and
         WHEREAS, Representative Dawson drew on her life experiences
  to positively benefit others as a two-term member of the house; she
  served on the Public Health, Higher Education, and House
  Administration Committees, and she was recognized by her peers in
  the 78th Legislature with an Outstanding Freshman Education
  Legislator award; among her many significant contributions was the
  establishment of the statewide DEAR Program for potential organ
  donors, and, as the recipient of a kidney donation herself, she was
  proud to witness the start of the program on September 1, 2006; and
         WHEREAS, Devoted to her Southeast Texas community,
  Representative Dawson shared her time and expertise with numerous
  organizations, including the Vic Coppinger YMCA, the Pearland
  College Center, the Pearland Rotary Club, the Pearland/Hobby Area
  Chamber of Commerce, the Pearland Exchange Club, the PISD
  District-wide Education Improvement Council, the Tri-District
  School-to-Careers Partnership, and the Pearland High School
  chapter of Youth for Christ; moreover, she was a youth Bible studies
  teacher for 10 years; and
         WHEREAS, Glenda Dawson greatly contributed to the betterment
  of the Pearland community and the State of Texas; although she will
  be deeply missed, her legacy lives on through the countless lives
  she touched as a teacher, lawmaker, motivational speaker, and role
  model to those who were privileged to share in her years on this
  earth; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of the Honorable Glenda
  Dawson and extend sincere sympathy to the members of her family: to
  her daughter, Dee Saenz, and her husband, Carlos; to her
  grandchildren, Lauren and Dawson; to her mother, Ruby Miles; to her
  brother, Jesse Miles, and his wife, Pat; to her sister, Diane
  Taylor, and her husband, Darrell; and to her many other friends and
  admirers from across the Lone Star State; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of State
  Representative Glenda Dawson.
