R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The family and friends of Robert J. Bernal of San
  Antonio were deeply saddened by the passing of this esteemed Texan
  on August 30, 2006; and
         WHEREAS, Born on January 30, 1922, Mr. Bernal attended Sidney
  Lanier High School and studied at the Cranford College of Watch
  Making; a sergeant in the 5th Air Force during World War II, he
  worked for H.E.B. after the war and retired at the end of 28 years of
  dedicated service to the company; he also was supervisor of the
  Texas Gold Stamp Co.; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Bernal made significant contributions to his
  community through his 40-year membership with the Westside Lions
  Club, which he had served as secretary, as well as his work as a
  member of the board of directors for the Guadalupe Community Center
  and the Shenandoah Home Association;  and
         WHEREAS, A congregant at St. Matthew's Catholic Church, Mr.
  Bernal was a devoted husband and caring family man who played a
  positive role in the lives of many, and he will not soon be
  forgotten; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Robert J. Bernal and
  extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife
  of more than 60 years, Avelia M. Bernal; to his daughter, Cheryl
  Bernal; to his son, Robert J. Bernal, Jr.; to his brothers, Arturo
  Bernal, Joe J. Bernal, and Ramiro Bernal; to his sisters, Celia
  Hernandez and Margie Paniagua; and to his other relatives and
  friends; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Robert J.
  Bernal.
