H.R. No. 222
 
 
 
R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Matthew Stephens of Boy Scouts of America Troop No.
  40 in Houston has attained the rank of Eagle Scout with Bronze Palm,
  and this accomplishment truly merits special recognition; and
         WHEREAS, Receiving the Eagle Scout badge is a significant
  honor, one bestowed on only a small fraction of those who enter the
  scouting movement; to secure the Eagle Scout insignia with Bronze
  Palm, Mr. Stephens not only completed a project of benefit to his
  community, but earned five merit badges beyond the 21 required for
  the Eagle Scout rank; in the course of his stellar scouting career,
  he has also won the God and Country, Arrow of Light, National Honor
  Patrol, Order of the Arrow, Brotherhood of the Arrow, and World
  Conservation awards; and
         WHEREAS, The son of William A. Stephens, Jr., and Kathryn S.
  Stephens, this fine young Texan has demonstrated outstanding
  leadership ability throughout his scouting career, serving his
  fellow scouts as quartermaster, patrol leader, chaplain aide, and
  troop guide and winning their respect and admiration as he worked
  toward the highest rank that scouting offers; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Stephens attends St. Thomas High School, where
  he has made the honor roll for three consecutive years; active in
  numerous extracurricular activities, he has participated in the
  Writers Club, played soccer, and lettered in swimming; and
         WHEREAS, Through his dedication to excellence and his
  perseverance in the pursuit of his goals, Eagle Scout Stephens has
  proven himself worthy to stand among scouting's elite, and he may
  indeed reflect with pride on a job well done; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Matthew Stephens on achieving the
  rank of Eagle Scout and extend to him sincere best wishes for
  continued success and happiness; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Stephens as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
