R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, For more than two decades, Susana I. Aleman ably
  served as assistant dean for student affairs at The University of
  Texas at Austin School of Law, and her contributions to the
  university and to the community at large have positively affected
  the lives of countless people; and
         WHEREAS, The 1972 valedictorian of Falfurrias High School,
  Ms. Aleman joined the staff of the School of Law as assistant dean
  for student affairs shortly after receiving her doctor of
  jurisprudence from UT-Austin in 1984; she also holds master's
  degrees from Texas A&I University-Kingsville and UT-Austin, and a
  bachelor's degree from UT-Austin; and
         WHEREAS, Ms. Aleman's record of service in support of the
  university and its student body includes her roles as an advisor of
  the Latina sorority Sigma Lambda Gamma, mentor with the UT Dean of
  Students Mentor Program, and member of the UT Women's Athletics
  Hall of Honor Selection Committee; she has also enjoyed a lengthy
  tenure with the Austin Longhorn Club and has distinguished herself
  on its board of directors and as vice president for youth
  development; and
         WHEREAS, In addition to attending to her responsibilities at
  the university, Ms. Aleman has shared her leadership with the
  greater community; she has served on the finance committee at St.
  Albert the Great Catholic Church and is a member of St. Al's Gals;
  moreover, she has given generously of her time and expertise to
  benefit the Austin Lyric Opera, the Hispanic Women's Network of
  Texas, the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, the Texas Commission for
  Judicial Efficiency, and the Benjamin House Project of the Austin
  State School; and
         WHEREAS, Ms. Aleman's honors include recognition as an
  Outstanding Leader in 2000-2001 by the Hispanic Faculty/Staff
  Association of UT-Austin and her 2006 selection as a Pathfinder by
  the Travis County Women Lawyers' Association; and
         WHEREAS, With her retirement as assistant dean for student
  affairs, Susana Aleman has completed a most accomplished tenure at
  The University of Texas at Austin School of Law, and she indeed
  merits special recognition; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Susana I. Aleman on her notable
  career as assistant dean of student affairs at The University of
  Texas at Austin School of Law and commend her for her outstanding
  efforts in behalf of the university community and citizens of the
  Capital City; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Ms. Aleman as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
