R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Citizens of Wichita Falls lost a valued friend and |
|
community leader on January 23, 2007, when James E. Lane passed away |
|
at the age of 79; and |
|
WHEREAS, Born to James and Augusta Lane on April 9, 1927, |
|
James Lane was a Wichita Falls native; he served his country in the |
|
U.S. Navy during World War II and later worked for Ruddy Packing and |
|
Paul Scheurer Engineering; and |
|
WHEREAS, On February 6, 1950, Mr. Lane married the former |
|
Elizabeth Frerich, with whom he shared 56 years of love and |
|
companionship, and the couple were blessed with three children, |
|
Deloris, Louis, and Leo; and |
|
WHEREAS, With the aid of his wife, he started James Lane Air |
|
Conditioning in 1957, and that ambitious entrepreneurial venture |
|
continues to thrive 50 years later as James Lane Air Conditioning, |
|
Heating, and Plumbing; under Mr. Lane's leadership, the company |
|
received national recognition as a semifinalist in the Better |
|
Business Bureau "Torch Award for Marketplace Ethics," an |
|
achievement of which he was justifiably proud; moreover, this |
|
prominent gentleman served as president of the Air Conditioning |
|
Contractors of America-Texas; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Lane was a longtime supporter of the Boys and |
|
Girls Clubs of Wichita Falls, serving on the board for 33 years and |
|
as president for a year and participating on multiple committees; |
|
he also chaired the North Texas Area Council, a group of 22 North |
|
Texas clubs, and received the National Board Medallion for his |
|
exemplary service to the Boys and Girls Clubs of America; and |
|
WHEREAS, An avid outdoorsman and rancher, Mr. Lane enjoyed |
|
hunting and fishing with his family, particularly his |
|
grandchildren; he practiced his faith as a member of Sacred Heart |
|
Catholic Church, and he was a 4th Degree member of the Knights of |
|
Columbus; notably, he was also highly regarded as the "Wagon Boss" |
|
of the Mavericks, a group of local businessmen famous for preparing |
|
hearty fare for community events; and |
|
WHEREAS, James Lane was a man of character, compassion, and |
|
generosity who enjoyed giving back to his community, and he leaves |
|
behind a legacy to treasure by those who held him dear; now, |
|
therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of James E. Lane and |
|
extend deepest sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife, |
|
Elizabeth Lane; to his daughter, Deloris Lane; to his sons and |
|
daughter-in-law, Louis Lane and Leo and Sherri Lane; to his |
|
brothers, Clarence Lane and Joe Lane; to his grandchildren, |
|
McKenzie, James Clayton, and Taylor Lane; and to his other |
|
relatives and many friends; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of James E. |
|
Lane. |
