R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Oscar G. Gonzalez of Fort Stockton served with |
|
distinction on the Pecos County Commissioners Court from 2003 to |
|
2006; and |
|
WHEREAS, As commissioner for Precinct 2, Mr. Gonzalez drew on |
|
his extensive experience in both the public and private sectors to |
|
effectively handle the responsibilities of his office; his tenure |
|
was characterized by his love for his community, and he worked to |
|
promote tourism in the area and ensure proper upkeep of public |
|
spaces such as Rooney Park and to obtain $1 million in grant money |
|
for housing; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Gonzalez's impressive record of leadership |
|
includes serving on the Fort Stockton Housing Authority and the |
|
Fort Stockton Development District and the Trans-Pecos Soil and |
|
Water Conservation District boards; he was a member of the Fort |
|
Stockton City Council and served as mayor pro tem, and he has shared |
|
his time and talents with many organizations, including the Fort |
|
Stockton Chamber of Commerce, the Noon Lions Club, Meals on Wheels, |
|
and the Annie Riggs Museum, to name but a few; and |
|
WHEREAS, A graduate of Sul Ross State University, Mr. |
|
Gonzalez served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and garnered |
|
numerous medals, including the Purple Heart; throughout the years, |
|
he has been actively involved with veterans groups, including the |
|
American G.I. Forum, the American Legion, and the Veterans of |
|
Foreign Wars, and he has been recognized for his outstanding |
|
service through his receipt of the J. R. Rutherford and All American |
|
Commander awards from the VFW as well as an appreciation award from |
|
the G.I. Forum; and |
|
WHEREAS, Oscar Gonzalez has made immeasurable contributions |
|
to his community, and he may take justifiable pride in his efforts |
|
to make Pecos County an even better place in which to live and work; |
|
now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby commend Oscar G. Gonzalez for his service as |
|
commissioner of Pecos County, Precinct 2, and extend to him best |
|
wishes for success in his future endeavors; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Mr. Gonzalez as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
