R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The Panthers football team of Liberty Hill High
School won the University Interscholastic League Class 3A Division
II State Championship on December 23, 2006, taking home the first
state title in the school's history; and
WHEREAS, The championship was the culmination of a thrilling
and hard-fought season in which the Panthers matched up against a
long list of talented opponents and posted an impressive record of
13 wins and just two losses; the team's success was driven by a
hard-charging rushing attack and a spirited defense that
stonewalled opponents on crucial plays; and
WHEREAS, At no time was that more true than in the
championship game, where Liberty Hill faced off against the Bobcats
of Celina High School, a team that had won numerous state
championships and had posted 31 straight victories; throughout the
game, the Panther defense rose up on key fourth-down plays and
turned back Celina, including two decisive stops in the final five
  minutes of the game; and
WHEREAS, Grinding out yards, the Liberty Hill offense put 19
  points on the board in the first three quarters of the title game;
then, with the score tied in the final minutes of play, they took
possession of the ball on their own 40 yard line and engineered a
dramatic drive down the field; with just six seconds on the clock,
placekicker Gio Magallon booted a 31-yard field goal to make the
score 22-19 and give Liberty Hill the state title; and
WHEREAS, The exceptional Liberty Hill football players,
together with head coach Jerry Vance and the other members of the
Panthers staff, have achieved the ultimate level of success, and
the entire Liberty Hill community can take pride in this tremendous
achievement; the team received crucial support from the school
band, the cheerleaders, the Liberty Hill Belles drill team, and the
enthusiastic student body, and the winning spirit they helped
create was carried forth by parents, business owners, teachers,
school district administrators, and the huge number of Panther fans
in the local area; together, they brought about a special moment in
the town's history, and the 2006 football season will long be
remembered and celebrated by the residents of Liberty Hill; now,
  therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
