R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Memories of a life well lived may bring comfort to
  the family and friends of Matt John Karpan, who passed away on
  January 18, 2007, at the age of 93; and
         WHEREAS, Born on January 25, 1913, near Albia, Iowa, Matt
  Karpan was the son of Croatian immigrants Ivan and Kata Karpan; he
  graduated from Albia High School in 1931 and later moved to southern
  California, where he worked at Lockheed Aircraft and studied
  photography; he returned to Iowa in the late 1940s and began a
  distinguished career as the vice president and director of
  purchasing of Waterloo Industries, Inc., helping the company become
  one of the world's largest manufacturers of roller cabinets and
  tool storage chests before retiring in 1983; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Karpan married the former Janet Claire Mevis on
  December 30, 1950, and the couple shared 56 years together,
  including more than two decades in Florida, where they lived their
  retirement to the fullest, golfing, attending cultural events, and
  spending time with dear friends; Mr. Karpan was especially proud of
  his golf record, which included hitting four holes in one, and he
  continued to enjoy a passion for photography; and
         WHEREAS, A beloved husband, father, and grandfather, Matt
  Karpan inspired countless individuals with his enthusiasm,
  dedication, and verve, and although he will be greatly missed, he
  leaves behind a legacy that will be treasured by those who shared in
  his life; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Matt John Karpan and
  extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife,
  Janet Mevis Karpan; to his children, Kathy Perry and her husband,
  Justin Muir Perry, Marta Mattox and her husband, James Albon
  Mattox, and Julie Karpan and her husband, Jerry Holly; to his
  grandchildren, John Whitney Perry, Anne Muir Perry, Katherine Muir
  Perry, Matthew Alexander Perry, James Sterling Mattox, and Janet
  Mary Kathryn Mattox; and to his other relatives and friends; and, be
  it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas House
  of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Matt
  John Karpan.
