R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Juan Carlos Gonzalez, a junior at Canutillo High
  School in El Paso, won eighth place in an essay contest sponsored by
  the National Society of The Colonial Dames of America; and
         WHEREAS, This year's contestants addressed the topic "Which
  amendment is most important to you and why?"; the sponsors select
  two winners from Texas and send them to a National Leadership
  Conference in June in Washington, D.C., for an educational program
  on citizenship and the federal government; and
         WHEREAS, Mentored by English teacher Florence Schetgen, this
  fine young Texan is a source of tremendous pride to his school, his
  family, and his friends; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Juan Carlos Gonzalez on winning
  eighth place in the National Society of The Colonial Dames of
  America essay contest and extend to him warmest best wishes for
  continued success and happiness; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Gonzalez as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
