R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is pleased to |
|
honor the senior citizens of our state and to recognize February 13, |
|
2007, as Senior Day at the Capitol; and |
|
WHEREAS, There are approximately three million Texans over 60 |
|
years of age; by the year 2020, it is estimated that more than five |
|
million Texans will be senior citizens; and |
|
WHEREAS, These exceptional individuals have helped Texas |
|
achieve greatness in agriculture, education, industry, information |
|
technology, literature, performing arts, visual arts, space |
|
exploration, and sports; and |
|
WHEREAS, Through their selfless service to others and through |
|
their enthusiasm for living life to the fullest, senior Texans are |
|
role models for younger Texans; as Texans continue to live longer, |
|
these seniors will demonstrate the importance of healthy aging, |
|
which is being emphasized on Senior Day this year; and |
|
WHEREAS, Texas seniors reflect the state's diverse ethnic, |
|
spiritual, and cultural roots and exemplify the common bonds the |
|
citizens of the Lone Star State share; Senior Day at the Capitol |
|
celebrates the contributions of these citizens and addresses the |
|
issues facing seniors in Texas; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby commend senior Texans for their priceless |
|
contributions to our state and extend to them a warm welcome to the |
|
Capitol on this special day in their honor; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for the visiting delegation as an expression of high |
|
regard by the Texas House of Representatives. |
