R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, For more than 30 years, Dr. Francisco Mauricio
  Bandeira Teixeira has served the residents of Alice and its
  surrounding communities through his work as a physician and civic
  leader; and
         WHEREAS, Born in Brazil in 1937, Dr. Teixeira earned his
  medical degree from Universidade Federal do Ceara Medical School in
  1964 and came to the United States shortly thereafter to work and
  study; he arrived in Plainview and began employment at the town's
  general hospital; two years later, after completing the first year
  of his residency at Scott & White in Temple, he was drafted by the
  U.S. Army; and
         WHEREAS, In 1969, Dr. Teixeira began his year-long service in
  Vietnam as a captain at one of the army's busiest hospitals, located
  in Cu Chi along the Ho Chi Minh Trail; he later accepted a six-month
  service extension and went on to earn numerous honors, including
  the Bronze Star, before being discharged with the rank of major; in
  December 1970, he returned to Temple, where he completed his
  residency before beginning a year of employment in West; and
         WHEREAS, The citizens of Alice welcomed Dr. Teixeira to their
  community in November 1973, and the following month he married the
  former Ingrid Follak, a fellow Brazilian he had met while living in
  Temple; since his arrival in Alice, he has played an increasingly
  important role in the city's medical community, serving as chief of
  staff and chief of surgery at Alice Physicians and Surgeons
  Hospital, Alice Regional Hospital, and CHRISTUS Spohn Hospital
  Alice and as medical director for the Hebbronville, San Diego,
  Premont, and Falfurrias rural health clinics; and
         WHEREAS, Dr. Teixeira has been a fellow of the American Board
  of Surgery since 1976 and is a member of the Texas Society for
  Gastrointestinal Endoscopy and the American College of Surgeons; in
  addition to serving on the board of Triad, he has held leadership
  roles with the TRI-County Medical Society, Paragon PHO, the
  American Medical Association, and the Texas Medical Association;
  and
         WHEREAS, Throughout his years in Alice, Mauricio Teixeira has
  worked to promote quality and excellence in the care of patients,
  and he has further contributed to the betterment of the community
  through three decades of engaged citizenship; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby recognize Dr. Francisco Mauricio Bandeira
  Teixeira for his medical and civic contributions to his fellow
  residents and extend sincere best wishes to him for continued
  success and happiness; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Dr. Teixeira as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
