R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, El Paso resident Guillermo Carreon celebrated over a |
|
|
century of life well lived with the commemoration of his 107th |
|
|
birthday on January 14, 2007; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, On that special date in 1900, Guillermo Carreon was |
|
|
born in Chihuahua City, Mexico; he moved with his family to the |
|
|
United States as a young man, becoming a U.S. citizen and settling |
|
|
on the south side of El Paso, where he worked as a roofer for 40 |
|
|
years; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Carreon's age has made him something of a |
|
|
celebrity in the local area; his birthday has been covered by the El |
|
|
Paso Times every year since he turned 100; for his 2007 celebration, |
|
|
a party was organized by JoAnn Alba, activities director of the |
|
|
Regent Care Center, where he lives; the gathering featured |
|
|
mariachis and a colorful cake, and it was attended by his friends |
|
|
and family; still full of energy, Mr. Carreon marked the occasion by |
|
|
dancing with one of his great-grandnieces; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Dancing has always been a favorite activity for Mr. |
|
|
Carreon, and his longevity has been attributed to his active |
|
|
lifestyle, which has included a lot of walking in addition to his |
|
|
outdoor work and his spins on the dance floor; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Guillermo Carreon's continued good health and love |
|
|
of life are inspirational, and it is a pleasure to pay tribute to |
|
|
this remarkable man and his many decades of memorable experiences; |
|
|
now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby honor Guillermo Carreon on his 107th birthday |
|
|
and extend to him warmest wishes for continued happiness; and, be it |
|
|
further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for Mr. Carreon as an expression of high regard by the |
|
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
