R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Texans lost a notable public servant with the death
  of Winfree L. Brown of Christoval, who passed away on September 3,
  2006, at the age of 79; and
         WHEREAS, A native of Christoval, Mr. Brown served his country
  during World War II as a member of the U.S. Navy; he attended North
  Texas State College, now the University of North Texas (UNT), and
  earned a bachelor's degree in business administration; and
         WHEREAS, This exceptional civic leader was the first UNT
  alumnus to become chairman of the school's board of regents,
  serving in that position from 1979 to 1985; he was elected to the
  Midland County Commissioners Court in 1970 and served as a
  commissioner for 24 years; additionally, he was appointed by
  Governor Rick Perry to the Upper Colorado River Authority and
  requested by President George W. Bush to participate in the White
  House Conference on Aging; Mr. Brown's professional career involved
  land management and independent work in the oil and gas industries;
  and
         WHEREAS, Winfree Brown built a life that was rich in family,
  friends, and achievements, and his many efforts in behalf of his
  community and this state will not be soon forgotten; he will be
  deeply missed, but he will always be remembered with great respect
  and admiration; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Winfree L. Brown and
  extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife,
  Lou Brown; to his children, Lesley B. Hancock, Barbara L. Thompson,
  Nancy T. Walker, Theresa B. Cortez, and Russell K. and Karl B.
  Brown; to his grandchildren, Justin, Kathleen, Hannah, John, Peter,
  Christine, Karl, and Gehrig; to his brother, Daniel F. Brown; and to
  his other relatives and many friends; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Winfree L.
  Brown.
