R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Students at Hillcrest Elementary School |
|
Are honoring the writer of McElligot's Pool, |
|
Namely Theodor Geisel, a.k.a. Dr. Seuss |
|
(He wasn't a Grinch and he wasn't a moose); |
|
He was born on this day in Nineteen Oh Four |
|
(That's March the second, if you're keeping score); |
|
The children of Dumas today will give praise |
|
To the author who often has brightened their days; and |
|
WHEREAS, Dr. Seuss, the most famous of all |
|
Children's book authors (some big and some small), |
|
Wrote Yertle the Turtle and TheCat in the Hat |
|
And Happy Birthday to You! (now how about that!) |
|
And that wonderful book with the title so sweet, |
|
And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street; |
|
He created the Sneetches; he invented green ham |
|
And Thing One and Thing Two and (of course) Sam-I-am; and |
|
WHEREAS, Dr. Seuss has created great joy |
|
In the heart and the mind of each girl and each boy, |
|
Making him or her laugh with their whole solar plexus |
|
At Hillcrest Elementary in Moore County, Texas; |
|
Now (not a moment too soon), therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of the 80th Legislature of Texas |
|
(who don't normally speak in a rhythm as complex as |
|
this is) hereby commend Hillcrest Elementary |
|
For throwing a party on this man's centenary |
|
(Plus three years, don't you know); and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this rhythmic resolution |
|
Be prepared by the staff of this great institution |
|
For the children and teachers in all of the room-uhs |
|
Of Hillcrest Elementary School up in Dumas |
|
To express the regard (very high) of the Texas |
|
(not Kansas, not Iowa) House of Representatives. |
