R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The Austin community lost an esteemed public servant
  and caring friend with the death of Roy Edwin Wright on August 22,
  2005, and the Texas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired has
  named its technology wing in his honor to recognize his years of
  leadership and dedication to the school; and
         WHEREAS, Born on December 22, 1951, Roy Wright grew up in
  Tennessee and earned a bachelor's degree in psychology from
  Tennessee Technological University; he subsequently moved to
  Austin, where he found his calling working with students at the
  Texas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired; hired as a
  houseparent, he ultimately founded and directed the school's
  department of technology services, and his distinguished tenure
  there spanned more than 25 years; and
         WHEREAS, Guided by a strong belief in the use of technology to
  improve the lives of visually impaired students, Mr. Wright
  developed TSBVI into one of the most technologically advanced
  schools of its kind in the country; he was genuinely beloved by
  colleagues, staff, and students alike, and on February 9, 2007,
  many of them gathered to commemorate the dedication of the TSBVI Roy
  Wright Technology Wing; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Wright shared nearly 25 years of marriage with
  his wife, the former Yvonne Del Rio, and their union was blessed
  with three children, Brandon, Sage, and Miles; and
         WHEREAS, A fun-loving and lively man, Mr. Wright truly
  enjoyed working with children, both professionally and as a
  volunteer; he served as a Cub Scout leader and as an assistant
  scoutmaster, and he was especially pleased to see his oldest son
  attain the rank of Eagle Scout and his youngest become a First Class
  Scout; in addition, he shared his time and talents as board member
  and treasurer for South Austin Baseball, a Little League
  organization; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Wright took solace in his faith and was active in
  several religious groups, including the Gathering of Men at the
  First Evangelical Free Church and the Order of St. Luke prayer
  service at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church; and
         WHEREAS, Known for his insightful and caring nature, Roy
  Wright embraced a large group of friends and coworkers as his
  family; although he is deeply missed, the memory of his warmth,
  wisdom, and generous spirit will be forever treasured by those who
  were fortunate enough to share in his love and friendship, and the
  dedication of the TSBVI Technology Wing in his honor is a lasting
  tribute to his contributions to the school and community; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby honor the life of Roy Edwin Wright and
  commemorate the dedication of the Texas School for the Blind and
  Visually Impaired Roy Wright Technology Wing; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and for the school and that when the Texas
  House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of
  Roy Wright.
