R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The citizens of Texas have long benefited from the
  ability and expertise of award-winning photographer Irwin Thompson
  of The Dallas Morning News; and
         WHEREAS, A photojournalism graduate of the University of
  Louisiana at Monroe, Mr. Thompson worked as a staff photographer
  with the Monroe News-Star and the New Orleans Times-Picayune before
  joining the staff of The Dallas Morning News in 1990; and
         WHEREAS, Over the course of his notable career, he has earned
  well-deserved recognition for his work, including awards from the
  Texas Associated Press, the Louisiana Associated Press, the Texas
  Headliners, the Press Club of Dallas, and the National Press
  Photographers Association; and
         WHEREAS, In 2006 this accomplished professional was a member
  of The Dallas Morning News team of eight photojournalists who won
  the 2006 Pulitzer Prize in Breaking News Photography for their work
  covering the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans; and
         WHEREAS, For more than 15 years, Irwin Thompson has
  chronicled the lives of his fellow citizens with a perceptive and
  compassionate eye, and his stylish work has aided the readers of The
  Dallas Morning News in gaining a deeper understanding and
  appreciation of the events of the day; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby recognize photojournalist Irwin Thompson of The
  Dallas Morning News for his outstanding contribution to his
  community and to his profession; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Thompson as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
