R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The year 2007 marks the 50th anniversary of the
  ordination of the Reverend William Davis, and it is fitting to take
  this opportunity to recognize this notable priest and commend him
  for his exceptional service to others; and
         WHEREAS, Ordained in June 1957, Father Davis studied
  philosophy and theology at DeMazenod Scholasticate in San Antonio
  and earned a master's degree in social studies from Loyola
  Marymount University in Los Angeles; he furthered his education by
  attending the Tantur Ecumenical Institute for Theological Studies
  in Israel; and
         WHEREAS, Father Davis had his first assignment as a
  professor, teaching at La Purissima Juniorate in Mexico City from
  1958 to 1960, and he followed that position with several decades of
  service as a professor, pastor, program director, and campus
  minister in San Antonio, with a two-year period as spiritual
  director for oblate students at Creighton University; and
         WHEREAS, The year 1990 brought with it great change for
  Father Davis as he left his position as pastor of St. Mary's
  Catholic Church in San Antonio to go to Africa to assist in mission
  work; for the next three years, he was associate director of the
  Pre-Novitiate Formation Program in Lusaka, Zambia, before he
  returned to the States; he most recently has been pastor of
  Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Houston; and
         WHEREAS, Described as a man with a zest for life, Father Bill
  Davis is a philosopher, teacher, historian, counselor, and builder
  of loving communities; he is a blessing in the lives of countless
  individuals, and his efforts in behalf of Texans and people
  throughout the world are an inspiration; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate the Reverend William Davis on the
  50th anniversary of his ordination to the priesthood and extend to
  him best wishes for the future; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Father Davis as an expression of highest regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
