R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The family and friends of U.S. Marine Lance Corporal
  Stephen L. Morris of Lake Jackson suffered an immeasurable loss
  with the death of this valiant soldier on December 24, 2006, at the
  age of 21; and
         WHEREAS, Assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment,
  3rd Marine Division, III Marine Expeditionary Force, Lance Corporal
  Morris was killed while serving his country during combat
  operations in Iraq; and
         WHEREAS, Born on July 2, 1985, he graduated from Brazoswood
  High School in 2004 and was active in the local First Baptist
  Church; growing up in a coastal community, he developed a lifelong
  passion for surfing and the sea; and
         WHEREAS, Lance Corporal Morris was known for his strong
  Christian faith, which he carried with him to the barracks and the
  battlefield, evangelizing to his fellow soldiers; he was stationed
  in Hawaii and Afghanistan before his tour in Iraq, where he served
  as a mortar man before being offered a position driving Humvees; and
         WHEREAS, Despite the dangerous nature of his mission, he
  remained devoted to serving his country; he died for the flag he
  chose to defend, and to pay tribute to this fallen hero, members of
  his community raised hundreds of American flags in his memory; and
         WHEREAS, Exemplifying the highest ideals of the U.S. armed
  forces, Stephen Morris inspired others with his fortitude,
  tenacity, and courage; although his death leaves a void in the lives
  of his loved ones, they will forever carry memories of this heroic
  young Texan close in their hearts; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Lance Corporal
  Stephen L. Morris and extend deepest sympathy to his family: to his
  parents, Lloyd and Anna Morris; to his girlfriend, Lacey Uilani De
  Guzman; to his sisters, Kristin Cochran and her husband, Daniel,
  and Kathryn Morris; to his brother, Jonathan Morris; to his
  grandmothers, Aleda Morris and Mae Bell Barton; to his nephew and
  niece, Kason and Tayah Cochran; and to his other relatives and many
  friends; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of United
  States Marine Lance Corporal Stephen L. Morris.
