R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The people of Angleton lost a beloved friend and
  neighbor and an esteemed civic leader with the passing of Leonard C.
  Edwards on December 4, 2006; and
         WHEREAS, A resident of Angleton for more than half a century,
  Mr. Edwards organized the local Little League, serving as coach and
  umpire, and today area youth continue to learn many life lessons at
  the L. C. Edwards Baseball Complex, which bears his name; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Edwards gave generously of his time and talents
  to a number of worthy organizations, including Habitat for
  Humanity, the Salvation Army, and the Boy Scouts of America; in
  addition, he was a valued congregant of Calvary Baptist Church and a
  member of the Angleton Parks Board, the City Drug domino group,
  Woodmen of the World, and VFW, and he often donned a red suit to play
  Santa Claus for community events; and
         WHEREAS, The local Lions Club also benefited from his
  involvement; Mr. Edwards served as district governor of the
  organization and participated in the group's many programs and
  activities; and
         WHEREAS, A veteran of the U.S. Army, he proudly served his
  country in the Korean War and later gained employment with Dow
  Chemical Company, where he worked for 35 years before his
  retirement; and
         WHEREAS, L. C. Edwards was well known for his wit, ready
  smile, and storytelling ability, and many benefited from his
  generosity and compassion; although he will be deeply missed, he
  leaves behind a legacy of community engagement that will continue
  to inspire others for years to come; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Leonard C. Edwards and
  extend deepest sympathy to the members of his family: to his devoted
  wife of 57 years, Virginia; to his children, Danny Edwards and Anna
  Wynn, Lenny and Dede Edwards, Patti and Rick Hammond, and Trudy
  Edwards; to his grandchildren, Jennifer Romero, Eric Fitzpatrick,
  Drew Edwards, Kaylon, Alex, and Hillary Hammond, and Travis Loomer;
  to his great-grandchildren, Devon and Corey Romero and Zachary
  Loomer; and to his other relatives and many friends; and, be it
  further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Leonard C.
  Edwards.
