R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The friends and family of U.S. Army Corporal Timothy
  Allen Swanson of San Antonio suffered an immeasurable loss with the
  death of this valiant soldier on January 27, 2007, at the age of 21;
  and
         WHEREAS, Assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment,
  1st Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division at Fort Hood, Corporal Swanson
  was mortally wounded when a roadside bomb struck his convoy in Taji,
  Iraq; and
         WHEREAS, Born on March 25, 1985, in Fort Hood, Tim Swanson
  graduated in 2003 from Clark High School, where he was a member of
  R.O.T.C.; eager to serve his country, he joined the Army and was
  subsequently posted to Fort Carson, Colorado; he served as an M-1
  tank crewman during his first tour of Iraq, earning the Global War
  on Terrorism Service Medal and the Army Service Ribbon, and did not
  hesitate to sign on for a second tour, for which he served as a
  member of a personal security detail; he was posthumously awarded
  the Purple Heart, Bronze Star with valor, and Army Good Conduct
  Medal; and
         WHEREAS, Corporal Swanson was an enthusiastic outdoorsman
  who often spent his free time fishing, hiking, or hunting and also
  enjoyed paintball and martial arts; devoted to his family and
  friends, he especially cherished visits with his grandparents in
  Texas and Wisconsin; he was rarely seen without a smile, and he
  delighted others with his indomitable sense of humor; and
         WHEREAS, Our state and nation are fortunate to have young men
  and women whose love of country leads them to military duty, and
  time can never diminish the profound debt that Americans owe to
  Timothy Swanson for the service he undertook and the sacrifice he
  rendered; and
         WHEREAS, Through his selfless devotion to duty, honor, and
  his country, Timothy Allen Swanson embodied the highest ideals of
  the armed services, and his memory will be forever treasured by
  those who shared in the blessing of his life; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Corporal Timothy
  Allen Swanson and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his
  family: to his parents, Dana and Keith Howard; to his sister, Carrie
  Howard; to his brother, Charles Howard; to his grandparents, Delwin
  and Caryle Swanson and Charles and Lucille Howard; to his
  great-grandmother, Hilda Swanson; and to his other relatives and
  many friends; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of U.S. Army
  Corporal Timothy Allen Swanson.
