R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Family and friends mourned the loss of Val Verde
  justice of the peace and longtime educator Virgilio S. Luna of Del
  Rio, who passed away on July 31, 2006; and
         WHEREAS, Born on October 31, 1942, in Ciudad Acuna, Mexico,
  Mr. Luna graduated in 1962 from Del Rio High School, where he played
  on the Wildcat football team that won district, regional, and
  quarterfinal championships; he was named to the honorable mention
  squads in his sophomore and junior years and earned a place on the
  first team all-district squad as a guard in his senior year; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Luna, who received a bachelor of science degree
  and a master of education degree from Sul Ross State University,
  served 29 years as an educator in San Felipe Del Rio CISD, where he
  taught at Garfield Elementary School; during his tenure, he was
  active in numerous professional activities, serving as PTA and PTO
  officer for several years at his school and as a Texas State
  Teachers Association delegate in the state convention for many
  years; and
         WHEREAS, After retiring from education, Mr. Luna was elected
  justice of the peace in 1998; he also benefited his community
  through his civic work on the Police Task Force and the City of Del
  Rio Civil Service Commission and as a member of the Val Verde County
  Airport Board and the City of Del Rio Airport Advisory Commission;
  and
         WHEREAS, The positive influence this distinguished Texan has
  had on his community is immeasurable, and his spirit will shine
  brightly in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to have
  known him; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Virgilio S. Luna and
  extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife,
  Rosa Maria; to his daughter, Monica Luna; to his sons, Robert Virgil
  Luna and his wife, Yvonne, and Reno Luna and his wife, Debra; to his
  brothers, Frank Luna, Rosauro Luna, Hijinio Luna, and Juan Luna; to
  his grandchildren, Michael Edward "Mickey" Rodriguez, Reno Luna,
  and Robert Virgil Luna II; to his brothers-in-law, Joe Meza, Jr.,
  Danny Meza, Rudy Meza, Raymond Meza, and Ricky Meza; and to his
  other relatives and many friends; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of the
  Honorable Judge Virgilio S. Luna.
