R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Saleta Rogers of San Antonio has distinguished
  herself through her many years of service to Mount Sinai Baptist
  Church, and her work on behalf of the congregation and in the
  greater San Antonio area is worthy of the greatest respect; and
         WHEREAS, A San Antonio native, the former Saleta Wilson is
  the daughter of Odessa Wilson and the Reverend Rufus Wilson, the
  founder of Mount Sinai Baptist Church, and she inherited her
  parents' strong Christian beliefs; and
         WHEREAS, Educated in the city's public schools, she graduated
  from Phillis Wheatley High School in 1939; she went on to study
  cosmetology and was employed as a beautician and a seamstress, as
  well as working as a substitute teacher for the San Antonio
  Independent School District for 14 years; after marrying Prince
  Rogers, she lived in her husband's hometown of Mobile, Alabama, but
  the family, which grew to include children Kenneth and Jacqueline,
  soon moved back to San Antonio; and
         WHEREAS, Mrs. Rogers has taken part in a variety of
  activities at Mount Sinai Baptist Church; she was a member of the
  Sanctuary Choir for many years and today is president of the Senior
  Women's Ministry and Sunday school teacher for the Senior Women's
  Bible Class; and
         WHEREAS, Her dedication to her faith was also evident in her
  volunteer work for a local jailhouse ministry, where, for 25 years,
  she devoted her Friday afternoons to help those in need; in
  addition, she has acted as the president of the Goodwill Citywide
  Missionary Council for the past decade and has a leadership role in
  the American Baptist Eastern District Association, where she
  assists the Rev. Kerry W. Tillman; and
         WHEREAS, A proud and loving mentor to her three grandchildren
  and four great-grandchildren, Mrs. Rogers still finds time to take
  part in programs at various San Antonio churches, where her wisdom
  and spiritual insight are an inspiration to all; throughout her
  long and productive life, Saleta Rogers has embodied the Christian
  ideals of devotion and compassion, and the residents of San Antonio
  have greatly benefited from the actions of this committed and
  caring woman; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby commend Mrs. Saleta Rogers for her service to
  Mount Sinai Baptist Church and to her hometown of San Antonio and
  extend to her best wishes for the future; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mrs. Rogers as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
